Rear Suspension

Rear suspension is commonly found on downhill mountian bikes and freeride mountain bikes. Rear suspension will work to enhance the capabilities of a front suspension system, in that it further dissapates collision forces exerted upon a downhill mountain bike in motion. Rear suspension designs vary with the design and components of different downhill and freeride mountain bikes - some rear suspension systems will actually be built into the frame of the mountain bike, allowing for the force of impat to disipate through the entire frame of the downhill mountain bike; other rear suspension systems are focused solely on the seat stem, and offer a more cushioned ride, perhaps to someone who has opted to forgoe total rear suspension.
